Sinhala and Tamil New Year

 



The Sinhala and Tamil New Year is a very important festival  in Sri Lanka 🇱🇰. It is celebrated in April every year. This festival shows the end of the old year and beginning of the new year. Sinhala and Tamil people celebrate it with great happiness.


Before the new year day, people clean their houses and bus new clothes. Families make many traditional foods such as kavun, kokis, and kiribath. Homes are decorated and everyone gets ready for special day.


At the correct new year time, people light🔥 the hearth and cook milk rice. Families also do many traditional activities such as eating the first meal, working for the first time and giving money to children. These activities are done at special time.

The New Year is a time for love ❤️, happiness 😊 and family unity 👨‍👩‍👧‍👧. People visit relatives and friends and share food🍛 together. Children play⛹️ many traditional games. Everyone enjoy this beautiful cultural festival 🎉️🌸.
