My Village
My village is Sandalankawa. It is located in Kurunegala District. From Kurunegala, it takes about 2 hours by bus π to reach Sandalankawa. As my grandmother told me,our village got the name "Sandalankawa" when the legendary princess kuweni,while feeling, saw the moon and exclaimed, " Aho! lanka sandalanka!" My village has a temple, a church, a reservoir and paddy fields. It can be described as a village that perfectly embodies the traditional Sinhalese concept of the ' wewai dagebai gamai pansalai ' ( the reservoir the stupa the village and the temple). My house is situated a bit further inside the village, which gives us a beautiful, unobstructed view of the paddy fields. In the evening, the sky looks like absolutely stunning. It's a truly peaceful and beautiful sight that calms the mind. The life of our village still moves to the rhythm of nature.
